I had the same problem with the large eye-cup for the 50E & EOS3.  It was
particularly bad last summer when I was travelling, and needed the better
side-light shielding.  If I hadn't attached it to the strap lug with a short
thread I guess I could have lost it 20 times over in half the number of days.
With the large eyecup, you can't glue them in place as you need to move them so
as to unload/load film.
I've reverted to the standard eye-cup which was supplied with my EOS3.  No
problems so far.
