I originally bought my Elan 7 with the 28-105. I have since bought several prime lenses for more critical tripod type work. I use the 28-105 for more general walking about and family 'snapshot' type use..the kids birthday parties etc.
I am wondering if it is worth upgrading to the 28-135 IS for the IS feature, moreso than the extra 30mm on the long end. My understanding is that from an optical standpoint they are pretty similar...sharpness, contrast etc. I am also told that the 28-135 is isgnificantly bigger, heavier, and perhaps not as well sealed in terms of dust and that it has some degree of zoom creep. I get creep and dust in my 28-105 as well, though I don't think it really effects picture quality significantly. The IS system is one of the older original ones. Is there a sense that the 28-135 would provide better results for this use or does the added weight and slightly slower f stop make this not worth the $400 upgrade? I already have a 72mm UV filter for my 200mm prime, though not a polarizer at that size, which runs a good couple of bucks as well.
