Having been stuck in a very similar dilemma here's my view on it.

First of all you've got to work out what is important for your style of
shooting. I often find myself in the situation where there is limited
room to move about to get the framing I want, this means a zoom is
preferable. I also prefer using slow films so a large aperture is
helpful. I also often want to blur out messy backgrounds and foregrounds
again pointing to a large aperture.

I therefore concluded that the 2.8 aperture was the key issue and was
struggling to decide whether to put up with the extra weight of the
80-200 to get the zoom. The long end of the 28-135 didn't really cover
the zoom requirements too well for me because it is only f5.6. I was
anticipating getting both a 1.4x and 2x TC if I got the 200 and probably
only a 2x for the 80-200.

In the end I got offered a Sigma 70-200 2.8 and matched 1.4x TC at a
bargain price so the decision was made for me. I already owned the
75-300 so thought I'd keep that as an alternative for when I didn't want
to carry the weight of the 70-200 but find I hardly ever use it.
