Hi Al, Don't confuse the master/slave relation with main/fill-in. The master flash is group A, if you set the slave to group A, then any FEC you set in the 'master' will be transfered to the slave as the groups fire at equal power.
You don't say which body you're using. If you have a body supporting ratios (EOS30,33,3,1v,7,7E) then you set the slave on group B and use ratio control A:B like 1:4 (or is it 4:1 ??? I never remember ;-) to have the master firing 2 stops lower than the slave.
