Slow

Only one other USM lens goes to 1:1 ????

The 180 is a fantastic macro lens and my first choice for
magnifications up to about 2.5:1 (adding 25mm tube and doubler).
It would not be my first choice for a general purpose "200". For that
it would have to be the IS zoom.

You use whatever takes your fancy. The biggest problem with thinking
about AF for macro is that unless the "point of focus" you choose
coincides with a sensor you are stuffed. Focus/recompose does not
work at macro scales - even on a sturdy tripod. Actually, with good
eyesight MF is not that difficult ...

It is normal for it to be slow.
If you want the macro, buy it.
If the macro is not your prime aim (but AF speed is) avoid it.
