If you want a cheaper alternative to buying a light meter, carry a
gray card. Spot metering from a gray card should give you the same
readings as a hand held incident light meter. The biggest use I get
out of my Minolta meter is the non-cord mode for the flash meter.
It's great for manually setting flashes.
