Hi Bill,

I don't know if you have seen this but a good used EF 300 2.8L can be had
for about $2,000-$2,500 depending on how patient you are. I've purchased
two of them on-line and they were both near mint lenses. From the
perspective of a film based sports shooter there is no substitute for a
Canon EF 300 2.8L, trust me, I've tried. The EF 300 2.8L is the single most
flexible tool you can add to your film based lens quiver if you shoot
sports!

When I went to a 1D body things changed and I'm now pretty happy with the EF
70-200 2.8L at an effective [EMAIL PROTECTED]/2.8 and [EMAIL PROTECTED]/4 with an EF
1.4X. I
may wind up buying yet another EF 300 4L IS to use with the EF 1.4X at
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/5.6 but I'm waiting to see if I can live with just getting a new EF
2X seriesII converter at [EMAIL PROTECTED]/5.6. I made the mistake of selling my EF
2X before I tried it thinking that I would not need it but I miss the 600mm
f/5.6 I used to get with the 300 2.8L and EF 2X! Oh well live and learn.

Cheers/Chip
