A quick plug for the David (vs. PS the Goliath) of image editing programs. The (soon
to be released) next version of Picture Window Pro will include advanced noise
reduction and sharpening tools. One can make a good argument that PWP is already the
best program _period_, and the new version will make it even better. The price is
<$100, so its value for the money blows away everything else. (well, except for
gimp....) You can download a trial version from www.dl-c.com. For a much better
argument for PWP, visit www.normankoren.com. Even if you aren't looking to change
programs, you should visit this site anyway. It has a tremendous amount of valuable
information, and Norman Koren probably does the best job of explaining how and why
digital technology affects image quality.
