The source message said he had a digital rebel. It is hard to make minor
adjustments with the combination of 420EX and Digital Rebel - the need to
rewrite the firmware in the camera to give you the necessary control is the
hardest part :-(

The only Canon flash I'd recommend with the D Rebel is the 550EX as that
offers all the needed control on the flash - If that is out of your price
bracket then 3rd party is the best option. I'm still trying to decide if I
want to swap my Metz that does A-TTL (which won't work on my 300D) and Auto
(which is OK if the flash is next to the camera but useless with the flash
off camera on the OCSC-2) for a Sigma EF500 DG ST which seems to be the
cheapest E-TTL capable flash that offers some manual control.

Sigma's web site isn't very clear however on exactly what manual control it
offers - does anyone here have one and are able to comment?
