Andy,
I have the Sigma EF-500 Super. (the more expensive of the two) which has FULL manual
control and work BEAUTIFULLY in manual mode. It works OK in E-TTL mode as well (with
D-Rebel and other EOS bodies (I tested it with: EOS 3000, 300, 30, 300D (Digital
Rebel), Powershot G3).
If Metz works, I would probably buy Metz (if I woule be buying again). Why? Because it
is more sturdy made. I use flash a lot and in a lot of circumstances (temp below 0
degrees C) and it still works, but had to be repaired once (some contact got loose --
paid 10 US$ equivalent for repair). In that case, E-TTL stopped working, but the flash
still worked in manual mode -- because the contact that got loose was the E-TTL sensor
or something similar. :)
Regards,
Miha.
