My parents bought an Elan II with the 28-135IS a couple of years ago
after their old camera with FD lenses was stolen. Although my dad never
made any direct comparison of the two setups he always says that this
new lens is just not as sharp as his old lenses. On top of that, the
28-135 feels cheap and breakable compared to the old FD lenses which
were quite heavy but felt very sturdy. While not recommended you
probably could have used them as a hammer without doing much
damage....;)
