The 4GB microdrive is closer to the size of a DVD than a CD, and would hold
an awful lot of JPEGS if you would really be happy with 4x6 or 5x7's. It's
still a bit pricey, but the 2.2GB microdrive is pretty big too, and pretty
inexpensive.

You could approach your problem like this: Get a 2.2GB Microdrive and a
firewire CF reader/writer, which will transfer images to and/or from both
your camera's CF card and that Microdrive quickly. When you're done working
in PS, scale a duplicate of your image down to the size that would print a
good 4x6, and save it out of PS onto the Microdrive. By the time a $200
2.2GB microdrive fills up with lets say 11,000 JPEGS of 200k each (and
that's probably conservative if you use a good JPEG compressor), you'd be
able to print an awful lot of 4x6's without ever turning on a computer. The
problem would be keeping track of all the pictures on the microdrive.

Every once in a while you could back your Microdrive up to a DVD-R.
