I just set up a test shot and used the meter and the shot came out ok. Basically I seem to be haveing difficulty in getting consistency using flash. Setting flash and camera for 1/60 f8 does not always give me the correct exposure sometimes the picture is good sometimes too dark. It appears that the lighter.darker subject is it changes the exposure but why does this happen when everything is in manual mode? I never had this problem with film, perhaps the lab made the corrections and I just never knew it.
Is the flash locked on a specific zoom setting, or is it zooming with the lens? I had a whole set of shots that I shot with manual flash that were *really* inconsistent; I finally realized that the ones that were over-exposed were zoomed in further, and the flash was concentrating the same amount of light on a smaller area. So, if you're doing manual flash, then lock the zoom before you meter.
