Color of the dress was ok just the overall scene was dark whether it was of bride/groom or scenes from the dance floor of people dancing.
Then what you need is either more light or you need to drag the shutter. If the ambient light can be exposed for, try it. Get a light reading as if you were shooting without flash and then see how close you can get to that exposure, adding flash as fill. If that is not possible you simply don't have enough light. Pretty much end of story, I think.
