That is no different from right now. How long do you think Canon will
continue to support the older CRW format? I would rather have a widely
accepted standard, just as JPG and TIF are, that will have a longer
shelf life, than a bunch of proprietary standards that come and go with
amazing frequency.

We'll see how long .cr2 and the rest are supported. It will be a HUGE
pain when no modern program can read your ancient MKII (whatever) files.
snipIf Canon felt the need to update their format already, how will
Adobe's new
DNG format fare.
Surely whenever Canon, or Nikon, or anybody else wants to add extra
features, then DNG won't deliver.
