Greetings,
I'm having trouble with wireless flash, via 550EX and ST-E2 on a 1V, and an umbrella.
Flash head zoomed back to 24mm to fill the umbrella. Flash is about 14" from the umbrella.
In ETTL it seems to be hit and miss. Sometimes I'm getting the green "OK exposure" light and sometimes I don't. Is there a problem with the pre-flash not being strong enough to bounce from the umbrella to the subject for a reading from the camera (umbrella is 4-5' from subject)?
I got a good incident reading of f/11 @ 1/60 when I hit the test button on the flash. But while trying to shoot with the flash on manual at 1/1 power I couldn't get a strong enough flash for the green light or to fully light my subject. So I assume that hitting the test button on the flash gave me a more powerful flash than 1/1? I'm sure if I do the old distance from flash to subject math and add about a stop and a half or so I would be in the ball park. But I keep hearing how easy and accurate it is to use ETTL even for wireless shooting that I would like to know where I'm going wrong if not the pre-flash not making it to the subject. Hot lights are a lot easier :o)
This is the first roll of film I'm trying with this set up so the results aren't back to see yet( still in the camera with a few frames to go) but I know how they are going to be I suspect.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Tom
