------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------- Focusing will not be any different with a F1.4 v. F1.8. The break is F2.8 and faster where the cross-sensors work. Slower lenses lose this feature. The other difference is the 50mm F1.4 is a USM notor and can be manually focused after AF. The 50mm F1.8 II is a non-USM focuses a bit slower and does not allow focusing after AF. Since 50mm are not used for fast action sports, the Mark II is a bargain.
