I have a G5 that has received light use. While it's smaller and lighter than an SLR with extra lenses, there are some limitations. It's not really a pocket type camera, but it has a full range of features. If you want a full featured but smaller (not micro) camera, you might consider that s60 or s70. I have the S45, which was the smaller version of the G3, and it's quite capable. A limiting consideration is the lack of a flash shoe, but it's fine for typical flash pics and it has flash comp.
