I have a G5 that has received light use. While it's smaller and lighter than an SLR with extra lenses, there are some limitations. It's not really a pocket type camera, but it has a full range of features. If you want a full featured but smaller (not micro) camera, you might consider that s60 or s70. I have the S45, which was the smaller version of the G3, and it's quite capable. A limiting consideration is the lack of a flash shoe, but it's fine for typical flash pics and it has flash comp.

or if you really are after a pocketable camera for "snaps", the smaller compacts are great, I got an SD200 whilst I was visiting Chicago and the quality is pretty good considering the size of the camera, it also has a reasonable feature set. The SD300 is even better, better case higher pixel count etc. One of the best features they both have is a large clear LCD on the back. Here in the Uk they are called the IXUS 30 and IXUS 40.

A nice thing about the SD200 and 300 is that they are much more responsive than the S410/500, S60/70 and, I believe, the G5/6. I haven't tried the G6, and it's been a while since I used the G5, but they all felt quite sluggish. I have an S500 right now, and while it's quite good in most ways, and can go everywhere with me, now I would get the SD300. It's a lot quicker than the S500, smaller and has a bigger screen.

Now, if someone can just produce a similar camera with f/2 lens and reasonably low noise ISO800 performance!
