Don't write off the new P&S cameras before you try them.  FWIW, I tried the 
SD300 in the store, and the shutter lag is extremely short. I'll probably 
buy one just for those snap occasions.   I've been shooting a G2 for a 
couple of years, and have gotten "used" to the lag there.  The DIGIC II 
processor is a dramatic improvement.  I don't think it will be long before 
shutter lag is a thing of the past on all cameras.  just a guess.
