Sounds like they fobbed you off. I use a couple of Pentax manual focus
lenses on Canon EOS digital cameras, and they work fine using stop-down
metering mode in both manual and aperture priority modes.

Note that a Canon EOS (body) to Canon FD (lens) adapter will have an
optical element in it, and you would have to source one of these -
perhaps not easy? Adding extra glass into the equation between subject
and sensor is not going produce the best quality images, and maybe the
same could be said for using a Sigma mirror lens ?

It would be much easier to source an EF mount mirror lens either by Sigma
or Tamron - or even (dare I say it - Canon ? ;-)

The only reason I use a couple of old Pentax manual focus lenses on a top
line camera is because the Pentax A* lenses are top quality, and 85mm at
f 1.4 is an excellent portrait lens. Plus there's a bit of nostalgia to
it - I love the old-style feel. That said, it only comes out to play in
certain situations - the majority of the time I'm using Canon optics.

But back to your original question - mounting a manual focus lens onto an
EOS digital would not be a problem (assuming it can be made to fit with/
without adapter etc) - the camera does not need to know information about
a mounted lens for it to work. The camera will work quite happily and let
you adjust aperture and focus while it records your efforts. It's
*trusting* you :-)

  Cotty
