Currently, I shoot jpg because I'm down to only 43 GB of disk left, and
I really can't afford to buy another terabyte until probably February.
And even then, I've discovered this thing called World Of Warcraft, and
I might end up needing a high end gaming computer far more than I need
that terabyte of disk.

In general, I'd prefer to shoot raw+jpeg. I like having the raw
available in case I plan or need to edit in the future. Most often
blown out highlights are why I need the RAW. The pictures I most often
shoot for money, however, I'm shooting for the jpegs to give to the
client the next day (fight pictures). I just machine gun the camera
whenever it looks like someone is about to throw a punch, or a kick, (or
a whatever), and hand off thousands of poorly framed badly lit jpegs to
the fight promoter so he can have his lackeys try to find any good
shots. Both of us are quite happy with this arrangement.

When I go to print, I most often like the default PSCS2 raw->jpeg
conversion more than I like the canon raw->jpeg conversion.

Tonight I'm off to a sculpture opening to try and get all the displays
shot before the general public is let in. From the schedule, I gather
that they will still be hastilly installing the things until the last
moment, so it is hard to know what I'm going to encounter when I get
there. I'll shoot those in raw+jpeg though, so that I can churn out a
CD for the gallery right away and have the nice raws in case they really
like something but it didn't come out well enough in the jpeg.

I've found that on my 2GB cards shooting raw+jpg causes me to only get
about 1.3 or 1.4 GB onto a card. Shooting straight raw lets me get 1.8
GB onto a card. Shooting just raw makes post processing time consuming
though, so I kinda hate doing it. My process for looking at pictures is
HTML based using a private server and a collection of scripts to manage
the archive for me, so raw-browsing is right out.
