Subject: RE: EOS 20D Woes

For me, an Error 99 usually means a problem communicating with the lens. The
four most likely causes:

1. dirty lens/camera contacts or lens not completely locked into place.

Lens was on fully- will check the contacts. But this camera was just back from CPS.

2. non-Canon lens that's not 100% compatible (Sigma, Tokina, Vivitar,
Phoenix, Quantaray)

Only Canon glass in the bag and on the bodies.

3. battery grip not fastened ticghtly enough or an original, unmodified 20D
grip.

This is the reason that I took the filp bracket off- Did check this and it was tight. With the off set tripod mounting it does want to loosen.

4. a problem with the AF motor or helical assembly in a canon lens causing a
bind at some point in the focus range.

Happened with both 16~35 and 28~70 and they seemed to focus fine.

Thanks Tom Good info.
