I've had "Err99" with a Canon lens on my 10D.
The camera was warning me that it had detected a fault in my Canon lens
aperture mechanism. I reset the camera, as we all do, and carried on
shooting and a short time later I became aware of a strange "look" to the
viewfinder. Looking into the lens I could see that the aperture blades were
dangling from their mount, instead of being retracted to their "home"
position. I changed to a different lens, and carried on. Canon replaced the
faulty aperture mechanism at a reasonable cost.
Like others I've also had "Err99" with a Sigma lens before getting it
rechipped.
