At Scitex, we used Kodak CCD's for our scanners and believed they were the best and I'm pretty sure that Leaf used Kodak CCD's before they started making their own CMOS sensors so I wouldn't be surprised by that news.
However, I'm pretty sure that Nikon uses Sony sensors, which is why they are limited to 1.5X factor cameras. Sony doesn't want to make a bigger sensor. CMOS sensors are MUCH easier to make than CCD, though they are nosier. It's a huge breakthrough for Canon to be able to control the noise in their CMOS sensor cameras.
