Sadly, I'm now convinced that my old and outwardly battered EF 300 f2.8L
(original non IS version) is front focusing, and significantly. (Bought it
s/h a year ago, and it's taken me some time getting used to its weight, use
with extenders etc. and best gimbal head for my usage.)
I'm into bird photography at the moment, and I've had my suspicions for some
time but visits to Welney WWT and other local lakes with comparisons against
my lightly used and still pristine EF 300 f4L have convinced me that the
fault lies in the f2.8L. (Bodies used have been a 5D and a 30D, and
following my gut feelings, I've now done an analysis of >200 similar shots.)
Who can you recommend in the UK to make it right to original spec? No other
lenses (inc 4 L) in my large collection show any significant problem so I
assume my camera bodies are within spec. I don't want to have to supply a
body as well, as I'm afraid that would then be adjusted and not work well
with "in spec" lenses.
Names that spring to mind are:
Canon at Elstree
Lehmanns in Stoke
Fixation in London
Many thanks for any advice
