Subject: EOS 5d - buy now or wait for new model?
Hi,

The problem is I'm concerned I'll have a bad case of buyer's remorse in a couple months whens when Canon (possibly, probably) releases their next model with tons of new features. Am I just being paranoid, or should I really wait? Any advice?

Hi Robert,

Just before the 10D's introduction I was eyeing up a D60 with a seriously reduced price at an exhibition, and was heard discussing the purchase by a guy who whispered in my ear, "Wait a few days, there's better on the way". I did and he was correct - the 10D was announced two days later.

Having bought a 10D soon after introduction, I also bought my 5D very soon after its introduction. In each case they were my most expensive hobby purchases ever, and in the case of the 5D I could have saved £00s if I'd waited just a month or two. If I'd done that I wouldn't now have superb 5D quality images of the autumn colour, and rare heavy snow in our local wood. (Just happens to be snowing again at the moment.)

I know it was stupid financially, but if I wasn't stupid I wouldn't be into photography as a pure hobby... Only you can choose. Whether there is a new 5D, or 3D or even a new lens mount, on its way, I've certainly no idea but I do find rumour watching and speculation quite fascinating. (I used to be a loyal Minolta guy with four X-700s at one time, and still have two of the bodies, flashes and a few lenses. At least with Canon there's some decent s/h prime lenses available at sensible prices, so we all can have L zoom lens quality or better without breaking the bank.)
