As far as megapixel go, the 12.8 MP of the 5D is
probably more than you'll ever need. (It translates
to nearly 10"x15" at 300dpi without resizing.)

A well executed digital photograph can be enlarged
with care quite significantly.

I have a 12"x18" 360dpi print made from a 3 MP RAW
file (D30 I think) and I am still amazed how well
it holds up, from far away or close up.

There might be a new camera in the pipeline for
March, but it probably won't be much less than
the USD 3299 price the 5D started off with. My
guess is it might be $2999 (vs. $2300 after rebates
for the 5D).

Feature-wise I can only think of two or three things
which would make sense: automatic sensor dust removal,
faster processing, and better microlenses to achieve
(or even surpass) the corner light fall-off performance
of the 1 DS mkII. Or do I hear in-camera camera shake
reduction (combined with automatic sensor dust removal)?

IMO, adding a few MP won't do much in terms of resolution.

This said, I bought my 5D in October, and if
history is any proof, I buy digital cameras towards
the end of their "store life cycle" when they are more
affordable. The Canon double rebate was too tempting.

I am having some issues with the rebate but will write
up something once I know more.

As a general reminder with expensive rebates, follow the
instructions point by point, make sure you have copies
of everything and that you send your materials with
return receipt requested.
