Hi,

I'm fairly new here so perhaps this is a bit off topic, but I've actually got a question about an EOS camera. :) I'm contemplating buying a 5d, which seems like a pretty good deal with Canon's $600 rebate on top of B&H's low price. (I bought a 50mm lens a couple months ago, so I qualify for the double rebate.) The problem is I'm concerned I'll have a bad case of buyer's remorse in a couple months when when Canon (possibly, probably) releases their next model with tons of new features. Am I just being paranoid, or should I really wait? Any advice?

Robert,

Something I learned a long time ago when it comes to electronic goodies: I could buy Goody 1.0 now and be using it OR I could wait till Goody 1.2 is announced and not be using it till then if I'm not going to wait for Goody 2.0.

Now, having said that, in the nnD family there have been 3 announcements between 27.02.03 and 21.02.06 , 10D, 20D, and 30D.

In the Digital Rebel family there have been 3 announcement between 20.08.03 and 24.08.06, 300D, 350D, and 400D

The 5D was announced 22.08.05

Most of Canon's announcements come in February or August. (Data from dpreview.com)

Rebates occur because a new version of Goody is being announced and the old stock has to be cleared so it doesn't sit in a warehouse or because sales are not up to expectations. I think the sales of the 5D have been OK so.........

Hope this info helps rather than muddying your thought process.......

Bob
