Here is what I've heard about a rumored new Canon digital model:

"I'm curious to see if the rumored Canon sensor with no Bayer filter
actually comes out this month. The new camera is supposed to be
announced the 28th of this month, as I recall, and shown at the PMA
show next month."

"Canon is calling it something like TruColor. I have no idea how it
works until the official release. It may be a development from
Canon's early collaboration with Foveon, or it may be something they
came up with on their own. Fuji has announced development of a
"layered" sensor for color imaging, too. We should know about the
Canon sensor around the end of this month."

As a note on the 5D, just look at how well the other high end 1D cameras
have help up price wise. Even the 5 year old models are selling for over
$2k (though they were $7k to start...). And, as has been pointed out, if
you get a camera that is not a compromise to you, with respect to image size
and quality, nothing that comes out will obsolete it really, for you.

Regards,

Austin
