Austin, I went and checked my lens too. I was surprised to find a very slight movement in the front inner ring that clamps the front element into the lens. Seems very odd to me this is the case. Mine thought is not what you would call excessive, many a mm at most.

I wonder if anyone has a 50/1.4 EF that doesn't have any of this play?
