Acutally the worst thing for me with the 50/1.4 is the slack in the manual
focus. One of the desirable things with faster lenses is the ability to
open up and set precise focus. With my old lenses, they were very
precise with manual focus, but the play in this lens makes it harder to
be precise, like having slack in a steering wheel of a car makes it harder
to drive straight. The 50/1.4 manual focus feels very cheap, plastic-like,
sticky, and loose. Makes it hard to believe you can get good results.
It is also hard to override for manual focus. This seems to be the case
with all lenses that are non-L lenses, like the 100mm macro, where
manual focus is even more useful.
