It *can* be more of a problem, or it can be less of a problem.  My
particular scanner does not have a dust problem (Leafscan 45) because of
it's design.  It is designed like an upside down enlarger (no mirrors,
straight light path and it uses a cold cathode light source with a diffusion
chamber), and it also has a negative pressurized chamber when the film and
lense reside.  This leads to nearly dust free scanning...at least in my
experience.
