Might have been possible before MF-DSLR's were launched, but would be 
a far too large commercial risk for Canon nowadays.
Remember, the S/N-ratio of a larger chip/pixel will always be 
better....
(and with more than one 28mm announced, even the old wide-angle 
limits of MF have vanished....)

If I had to start from scratch today, my choice might very well have 
been a Mamiya ZD....;))
