Just to pile onto the rumor-mongering here... I had heard somewhere of a new medium-format digital Canon with a new lens series, and that was what was causing the rumors of a new 35mm lens mount system.

Me neither, I did get fast and courteous attention at the DMV once. But as far as the FD mount becoming history, the FD -> EOS transition was almost a necessity given the state of technology. Grafting electronic links to the FD mount would've been quite the kludge, and with the new mount Canon got way ahead of Nikon on autofocus. Have you seen the AF contraption involving a screwdriver blade on some Nikkor lenses? It wasn't fun to start anew (and I still have my FD cameras and lenses) but the pain eventually went away. -jav -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
