Hi Norm: It's not too terribly hard---maybe. <G> There are a couple of trim installations out there. One consists of flexible Bowden cable from the elevator back to frame "I" then there's a fitting, and solid tube through the fuselage to frame "F". From frame "F" to the cockpit control there is another length of Bowed cable. This installation allows the Bowden cables to be disconnected from the solid tube if the trim wire meets resistance. I have never---yet--- failed to be successful installing a new trim wire in this type setup. I have on a couple of occasions had to replace the Bowden cable in the tail which involves removing the horizontal stabilizer since there's a clamp way up inside. My favorite tool is an electricians crimper which will allow me to grip the trim wire with nicking it. I have noticed that the replacement wire from Skyport is larger in diameter than the replacement from Univair and may be more difficult to install in some installations. Other Ercoupe installations use Bowden cable from the cockpit control all the way back to the elevator. I offer no suggestions for fail safe installation of the trim wire on these installations. I have struggled for hours to install a new wire only to find there was still too much friction for the trim tab to function. I think that if I was faced with replacing the entire Bowden cable on one of these installations, I would install the solid tube with the two flexible sections rather than install another problematic long Bowden cable. You have to crawl down the fuselage to get to the clamps on the Bowden sheath, so why not put in the tube? Univair sells the short Bowden cables with the tube fittings already attached. Another observation, I had to replace the Bowden cable on an Alon some time back.----(a somewhat different setup) I called Univair for replacement Bowden cable stock--They said they didn't carry it---. I finally found a source that would sell me some and the entire length was only $20.00 or so with shipping. <G> These are my observation from maybe 10 trim cable replacements. Your own mileage might vary. <G> Best of luck Paul NC2273H ========================================================================== ==== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm Search the archives on http://escribe.com/aviation/coupers-tech/
