So it must be fuel.
Grit your teeth, remove the carb, and have it rebuilt. Or buy one already
rebuilt and exchange yours as a core. My experience this week is that
Aircraft Spruce has the lowest price out there, lower than your A&P will
find.
Since it seems to happen on climb-out, but not on the ground, my best
guess is that your carburetor float bowl level is wrong. If it's changed,
it's because something in there has gone awry. It may also be that
the needle and/or seat has gone bad.
How many hours on the carb since it was overhauled? How many
years? Mine only had 400 or so hours when it started dribbling
fuel on the ground (this ain't a Stromberg, it ain't supposed to do
that!) last week. But it has 23 years since rebuild, which means
the seals are that old.
Don't fly with it like this. It's trying to tell you something. It may next
tell you more loudly (or, in fact, more quietly).

I have been having a problem recently, and I thought I would get some input from the group. my 1946 415 C/D with C85 and Marvel Carb will loose some engine power shortly after take off, the RPM's will decrease to about 1900 RPM, this does not show up on the ground in the mag check or even in a full static run up on the ground.============================================================================== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm Search the archives on http://escribe.com/aviation/coupers-tech/
when it happens you can turn off the left mag, and then the right mag in the air and there is NO EFFECT. Full carb heat does not help either.
So far I have cleaned the plugs, then replaced the plugs with new ones, Checked for water in the fuel, and there is no water in the fuel.
Strange that this does not show up on the ground. I am getting pretty good at getting it back to the runway, But would rat6her practice this knowing that I have full power if I need it.
