Most of them have been replaced, and they are becoming less and less
rebuildable (shafts have worn, not just seals).

By all means, change it. As I recall, the kit was less than $100.00 You
retain everything but the master cylinder. The reservoir doesn't change.
What does change is the feel of the brakes. This new cylinder is much
more suited to the Cleveland brakes. The brakes are at once more
effective and much more easy to modulate or apply smoothly. Pedal
feel is vastly improved, as the piston is smaller in diameter and the
brakes come on gradually and smoothly, just like in newer aircraft.

Do plan on replacing the hose between the master cylinder and the
brake system. The angles change and the new cylinder definitely
has more pedal travel, and thus more flex.
