As the recent (since May 25) purchaser of N2427H and with still fewer than
10
hours of Coupe time, you can imagine that I have many questions. I've
followed
Ercoupers.com for several months and I am thankful for all the good
information
and tips constantly being posted.

That said, I do have a question that I do not believe has been completely
discussed. N2427H is a 415-C that I purchased to continue flying as a
sport
pilot. It's current gross weight is 1260 lbs. The type certificate allows
415-Cs
to become 415-Ds with a gross weight of 1400 lbs. with a few
modifications. All
of the modifications have been made on N2427H except the addition of the
stainless steel plate and the elevator restriction. Thus it is still a
415-C and
a Sport Pilot eligible aircraft. What would be the possibility of
obtaining a
field approval to increase the gross weight to 1315 lbs. by restricting
the
elevator travel by the percent of the weight increase related to the
difference
between an increase to 1400 lbs. and 1315 lbs.? Would this be feasible?
How
would it affect weight and balance? How would it affect flying control in
the
low speed area? Has anyone ever tried to do this? What might the FAA think
of
this approach.

The increase of 55 lbs. to the gross would make many of us (both those
flying assport pilots and those flying with higher certificates) "legal"
with full
tanks and two people. I would be willing to start the field approval
process
with our local FSDO office if any of you could confirm that it might have
a good
chance for approval.

Thanks for your thoughts.
