Ulrich,
Oil pressure and consumption are not the only indicators of engine
condition.
On a pre purchase be sure the compression is OK. Jerk the prop for
and aft,
if any play is felt check the end play clearance (.0025" max). Check
engine
AD's and accessories for AD notes (mags, carb, starter, etc. may not
be
listed under engine - check by manufacturer). New exhaust systems
could
cost as much as $1200 -$1500. Is the 1800 hrs. time since new, FREM
or
shade tree? This engine could be extremely expensive to overhaul
depending
on the ans. to last questions. Too many variables to consider the
remaining
time, so you might be wise to consider it used up. Then, depending on
the
previous answers, you should be able to get an idea of overhaul cost.
To be
sure, this is not a simple question of yes or no. Decisions,
decisions, -
airplane owners and future owners are privileged to make many
decisions
that could have a major financial and safety impact. Recommended
times
are just that and you should have no problems with the Feds or
insurance
unless something breaks and a crash results.
