Well, it seems my Delco 1101876 generator quit yesterday. While flying noticed
the ammeter at -11 amps (beacon drain), while it normally sits near zero (= -
11 amps beacon drain plus a little current for the radio, versus + 13 amp
generator output). Turned the beacon off and the ammeter settled near zero,
even at high engine RPMs. Uh oh.
This Saturday, I am doing a thorough check, hoping to just find a bad voltage
regulator. Hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. If I find a busted
generator, my alternatives are:
1. Rebuild the generator
2. Replace with used one
3. Replace with new (or rebuilt) one of same type
4. Replace with alternator.
The fourth alternative is tempting, in order to gain badly needed current
capacity. I can't afford a long downtime while waiting for the FAA to approve
a 337.
Any recommendation on STC'd alternators for C75-12?
Thanks
