Fellow Ercoupe enthusiasts,

I need to solve my coupe's high oil temp problem.

  • All the shrouds are there and sealed properly
  • I have a spin-on oil filter with a cooling duct direct from the nose surrounding the filter
  • The engine may be long in tooth, but I don't believe I am 'pulling' a lazy cylinder thus creating more heat.
Oil temps of 225 are routine
Oil pressure 34 psi min

  • The only anomaly I see is that the diverter valve for cabin heat either diverts heat to the cabin or to the interior of the cowl, so essentially, there is a 1-5/8 dia leak path of cooling air from the left bank at all times

Flying and worrying about oil temp is not fun.

1.Are there any STC's for an oil cooler?
        How well do they work?
2. Any body else having familiar with o-heating problems?
3. Is the larger opening nose bowl the solution?

I don't want to over cool in the winter, although our coldest winter day is 40 degree in So.Cal

Thank you
