John;
Anything can be welded by a skilled individual, but some things may not last too long after the process.  As far as the Ercoupe tanks, I'm not sure if there is a combo of procedures that came from the factory.  Re-riveting should usually work and if the parts are properly "glued" together, shouldn't ever leak.  Remember they use ProSeal to hold helicopters together!  I once had a cowl welded by an aerospace company (hey, it was cheaper than the Univair new price).  Beautiful job, but the part didn't last 10 hours.  Work hardened and stiff.  If you know anyone building an RV, ask to see their tank building procedures.  You'll be amazed at how non-complicated it really is.

Hello All,
Is it possible to weld a riveted header tank back together after
disassembly?  Is a riveted wing tank completely riveted or part
riveted and part welded?
John
