My header tank was just removed too and needs rebuilt.  There is a gentleman in our area, Craig Gunder, who is an authorized FAA repair station (I may not have the correct official designation here, but I know he has the proper credentials for aircraft work) who does excellent work for many people including a local WACO restoration shop.  Just as an aside, his son (and teamates) won a model free flight WORLD competition in Europe.  Anybody who's into modeling is probably up on this.

If John Wright is really busy, perhaps Craig Gunder would be an alternate source.   I've spoken to him just recently and he's willing to repair or completely rebuild mine.  Can anybody give an approximate cost for a new tank or rebuilt?

That's a shame they're abandoning the making of some parts and those reasons you gave are thin but all too common excuses.  This is where a strong owner's organization could have made itself worthwhile.  I guess it's still not too late for someone to take the reins and do something for the increasing owner population.  Maybe the LSA thing will get Univair back into the business of where we need them to be.

Point I'm trying to make is that there should be alternatives to patching with JB Weld and such and they should be available to everyone.  We're pretty lucky to have folks like JW Jr. doing tanks over, and we know the majority will be needing attention at some time.  Would be nice to have a parts source so John isn't overwhelmed.  Especially when I send him mine!

From what I've heard, the guys at Univair gave up building the inserts for the riveted tanks.
The shape is too complicated to bend - the aluminum used to crack or the press is just broken.
Any of these reasons are preventing Univair from making parts. And if they would make some, you would pay twice as much for one of them than it would cost to have all tanks redone by John Wright.
