----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----Tim, I went a similar exercise two years ago just after I purchased a '65 ALON. All the work was done by a local avionics shop. They are close by, so they did some work on their benches and some in my hangar. They don't work cheap! In addition to the items you mentioned, I got a new RH panel, an INERCOM, a hand mike and rear speaker, 4 new plug/jacks, one PTT button, three new antennas (VHF, GPS, Transponder), and a hard-wired LOWRANCE 2000C GPSMap. I had tried the GARMIN 296 first, but found the display too small for my eyeballs in the bright sunlight. Overall, this cost me around $8K. I had the original 40 year old Delco Remy 35 amp generator. It worked OK, and put out enough juice for all of the above. Nevertheless, I replaced the gen with a 60 amp alternator (since I was spending my grandkids' money). The alternator installer retained some of the generator wiring, purposely limiting alternator output to 30 amps (including at close to IDLE rpm). This, too, proved to be more than adequate amperage, and my battery stays fully charged at all times. I also saved about 7 lbs of gross weight. I am very pleased with what I now have. You'll find a photo of my panel and equipment in the Tech archives two weeks ago under "cockpit switch labels", but my ALON panel will look much different than your 415C. Good luck !

----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----Here are the facts. 415 C with no radio's, yet. C85 with generator. Now live under B class airspace and have to have a transponder with mode C. If I have to install the transponder with mode C, I might as well get rid of the handheld radio and install a panel mount com radio. While I'm at it why not a intercom system and Garmon 396.Okay now I am going from no radio's to a com radio, transponder/ mode C, GPS and intercom. Here is the question. Do I need to change over to an alternator and if so then why?Opinion anyone? Thanks,Tim============================================================================== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm
