I would certainly think so, but give him a call. 717-246-1200.

Hi Darick,
Will he also do the old wing tanks (SN135 model C)?
Thanks

My tank was "sloshed" years ago and it developed a leak. After the
chore of removing it, I chose to get a new one made rather than another
temporary fix.
I agree, John Wright is excellent. Here's another expert.
Since I live within driving distance, I'm having mine rebuilt right now
by Craig Gunder (Pennsylvania area) 717-246-1200. He's making all the
necessary forms for rebuilding header tanks - 5 gallon versions, from
aluminum. He's an authorized repair station, does excellent work and is
very easy to work with. If you need somebody elses opinion, call John
Shue Waco Restoration Shop at 717-764-5318.

There are differences among Coupe header tanks, e.g., bracketing and
valves. Some from UNIVAIR will fit your Coupe; some won't. Same for a
refurbished "loaner" that wasn't removed from your airplane. Try to take
some photos from under the inst. panel. Also, it "ain't easy" getting at
the tank to remove and re-install it! Again, talk to John Wright, Jr.

From everything I've heard and seen, the Jr. Mr. Wright is the tank man
(among other things)! If anyone is contemplating a tank repair, I have a
couple, of unknown condition, that you could use either as a core or as a
loaner while yours is down.

I am not a mechanic, but have some experience with a leaking header tank.
When mine showed the same leakage problem that yours now does, I contacted
all sources I could find about repairing or replacing it. A local welding
shop said a welding repair could not be economically accomplished and a
build from scratch would cost about twice what UNIVAIR charges for a new
tank (approx. $1300 ?). Every knowledgable source agreed that sloshing is
a bad idea! I'd recommend that you study the Tech Archives in this matter.
Bottom line (from my perspective) is to contact John Wright, Jr and ask
him about a tank overhaul. His work is outstanding - mine hasn't leaked a
drop since he did it wo years ago. His price is less than half of
UNIVAIR's. Unfortunately, he is a very busy guy so you may expect
considerable down time. Don Bowen '65 ALON N6360V

Today I removed the (inop.) VOR instrument face, just to get a
measurement
to see if one of the tiny round radios like Microair or Becker make,
would
fit behind my panel.
It's a good thing I did, because right behind it was a wet section of
header
tank, right where the fuel line comes out. It wasn't wet enough to form
drips before evaporating, but when I wiped it off well, the shiny seepage
immediately traveled right back out from the edge of the riveted plate
that
surrounds where the fuel line comes out. The A&P (and my CFI) advised
against flying it, so I won't be flying out to Cable Air Fair tomorrow.
Fortunately, I've found a new, young A&P who, while he doesn't already
know
Ercoupes, has a great attitude and seems very willing to be instructed in
the Ercoupe's quirks. Also very willing to jump on this without making me
wait earthbound for 2 weeks like the part-timer-A&Ps had been doing. I
phoned our EOC wing leader, Gary Dallugge, who instructed the A&P on
removing the header tank and "sloshing" it.
Are there any tips or cautions that I should pass along from you
gentlemen
to him, either for removing and replacing the header tank, or in the
procedure to seal its seepage?
Thank you!
Linda

It sure would be nice to see a pic of the XCOM installed. :-)

I have a vertical card compass mounted on the windshield strut, as close
to the top of the panel as possible. I do not have the bubble windshield
so it sticks out a bit, but otherwise a great device. I replaced the
venturi driven DG that was in the plane when I bought it. For non IFR
flying its absolutely terrific ... no bouncing around and no precession.
I don't think the checklist placard is what you're looking for. And, its
so hard to see thru my bifocals I don't even refer to it. I'm in the
midst of the annual and will be at the airport today. If I can get a
closer pic I'll do it.

Thanks, Bob. I appreciate the panel pics, too. Your XCOM is in the exact
same place I'm planning to have mine put. My throttle & ignition
positions are reversed from what you have, but I think a radio will still
be fine in the middle. I went out to Spruce last Thursday, handled the
XCOM, Microair & Becker, and decided on the XCOM.
Question: do you not have a magnetic-type compass, or does it just not
show in the pics? I hate having to read mine "backwards", and would
rather replace it with the other kind...but am unsure whether having the
magnetic one in panel is required.
Also, is the checklist placcard in yours original? If so, can I get a
copy from you in some way? Mine came with a checklist glued to the front
of the L-hand glove box cover, but when I looked carefully, it includes
things N/A to this plane, so I think some former owner just tried to make
it look original, but isn't. I'd love to have a copy of the original for
a 415-C.
Thanks --
Linda

I have an Xcom ... fits in the 7 inch space behind the panel. I mounted
it dead center in the panel. I've got just a few hours with it, and not
a lot of use except in the pattern. It receives as good or better than
any radio I've had (my previous plane was a Cardinal RG) and other
planes in the pattern hear me loud and clear.
Attached are a couple of pics of my panel. VFR only .... fun flying!

If anyone on the List has any experience of the small XCOM radio that
fits
in a round hole in the panel, I would be very interested in hearing about
it, pro or con. It is currently the leading contender for my new radio
purchase, due to what appears to be a good combination of specifications
and
small size. (And many thanks to Wayne for kindly translating the specs
for
this electronically-ignorant newbie!)

list,
would someone kindly forward this request to him?
Thank you!

Is there a way to lubricate the trim cable without taking the aircraft all
apart to remove it?
Thanks
