There was a discussion of fuel filters on one of the "ultralight" groups (now LSA aircraft, in fact) to which I subscribe.
I have a VAGUE memory of it being said that paper filters were not legal in airplanes because water could, in one of those filters, block fuel flow. Darned if I know, personally.
