Al, et. al.,

The EGT I had in my Coupe was not a TSOed instrument. The FAA guys had no
problem with approving it. Admittedly, that was before they tightened up on
approving things. Still, the FAA usually seems inclined to approve
improvements in instrumentation, even if they're non TSO.

I'm impressed with the Stratomaster stuff enough that I bought the
Stratomaster Extreme full instrument package for my homebuilt (which I still
hope to finish someday). The Extreme is a full flight and engine instrument
package in an all-in-one (single failure and you lose everything) package.
That doesn't worry me overly much since I hard-VFR and periodically practice
flying with no reference to any instruments.

Rather than the Enigma, for an affordable EGT for the Coupe, perhaps people
might like to look at Stratomaster's Smart Singles like the $160 (plus probes)
TC-1 thermocouple temperature display:

TC-1 Thermocouple Temperature Display
This is a configurable EGT/CHT four channel display. It can be used as single
channel, dual channel, three channel or four channel display unit. Each input
can be used to display a CHT or EGT channel. Probe types can be configured for
standard thermocouples, J or K types. Display for each channel includes a
bargraph (scale programmable) and a digital readout. Each channel can have a
temperature alarm programmed. The unit includes an uncommitted relay contact
output that can be used to switch an alarm light or buzzer as required. Unit
does not include probes. Select these as required for the application from our
range or use your own probes.
