There is one more point that was pointed out to me by my FAA guy. It is that not only are the 6 plys heaver, they are stiffer and transmit more landing force to the landing and then to the wing. I don't think that he was wrong? what do you think? makes sence to me. Mark

I'm sharing this because I went from a 6 ply back to the 4 ply on my Bonanza and will do it when the tire is worn on the Coupe. This was based upon a discussion on the Bonanza list which although highly reliable, gave me the incentive to do the research and comparisons myself. > > Weight, weight, weight. Although it may only be a around a pound, every extra ounce on a flying machine counts, especially on the Ercoupe. Given the station that the extra weight is placed, I wonder how much it changes the flight characteristics. The Ercoupe's nose and load is well within the limits of weight that a 4 ply is designed for. Do you really get any more wear from a 6 ply? There's no additional tread depth! If there was any money saved, it was minimal. > > We'll not go into some of the crazy things like the a/c being certificated with a 4 ply and not a 6, I don't know if that matters. > > Not a disagreement, just some food for thought.
