By the way, retreads are good.

I was reading through several sites on aviation tires and found that retreading
is common for airliner tires.

When retreading a tire, one has a choice of the rubber compound used, the
initial production process of a new tire supposedly does not give you that
choice.
There we are trading off a good casing flexibility with a hard tire surface.
Means when making new tires you can only choose one kind of rubber over all.
That's what I understood.
On a retread you can vulcanize a harder rubber as the running surface while
keeping the softer rubber for the overall tire.
I kinda like the concept. I used retreads on my Beetle years ago and it was
good.

Here is what DESSER says:

Retreads are actually the most underrated and best value in aviation today.
When retreading, we put harder rubber compound compared to most new tires.

Then Goodyear:
Goodyear has been retreading aircraft tires since 1927. Today, most military
and commercial airline tires

are designed to be retreaded. Retreading an existing casing can provide more
landings per tire at a lower cost

per tread, giving a significantly lower overall operating cost.

    Mark,
IMHO - there would not be enough difference to worry about, and slight over
inflation would probably make even more of a difference than the 4 or 6 ply.

    Al & Harmut
If I recall correctly, based on what Aviation Consumer reported the tread
life and wear of the 6 ply Goodyear Flight Custom III's tires do make
enough
of a difference to be worth the extra $. However given what AC, Harmut,
and you had said, I'll give 4 ply Desser retreads a try next time and see
how they compare to the wear and performance I've gotten from the Goodyear
Flight Custom III's (they've been great tires and last for years, while
flying about 150 hours a year).
